Our Current Mission:
2 New
Powered Patient Stretchers

The Grayslake Fire Protection
District is currently on track to run close to 4,000 calls this
year. Each medical call the firemedics must lift the patients
several times to get them into and out of the ambulance. You can
imagine that over the years the varied weights of the patients
have taken a toll on our firemedics. Many
have back problems and many more are developing them. The time
off work to treat these paramedics for the job related injuries
has come to a point where we have to do something.
The power stretcher has become an
option. Currently in use by a few local fire departments and
ambulance services, it has taken
the strain of lifting all these patients off the paramedics.
These stretchers are not cheap but when we consider the cost to
the district for Illinois Workers Compensation, the power
stretcher becomes a cost savings. The cost of these stretchers
is approximately $8,000 per stretcher. Currently the
Firefighters Association would like to work toward equipping two
of the four ambulances, one at each station. This will help with
the majority of the calls and should begin to help our firemedics heal. We are committed to achieving our goal and will
update this website with all the latest fundraising information.
